The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery es la secuela directa de Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers, una aventura gráfica de Sierra creado por Jane Jensen. Esta segunda parte da el paso del 2D al FMV propio de su época, siendo una obra muy ambiciosa y de alto coste, toda una superproducción de los videojuegos de gran reconocimiento.
Descripción
Tras su primera aventura, el nuevo Schättenjagger, Gabriel Knight, se ha establecido en Schloss Ritter (del alemán, schloss: castillo; ritter: caballero). Al poco tiempo, la gente del lugar acude a el para que asuma su deber y se enfrente al nuevo mal que asola las tierras y ha acabado con la vida de una niña: el hombre lobo.
Curiosidades
- A diferencia del primer Gabriel Knight, el juego fue publicado en España íntegramente en inglés y con el inconveniente añadido de que los diálogos hablados no mostraban ningún tipo de subtitulación, mientras que en otros países como Alemania, Francia e Italia se realizaban doblajes a sus respectivos idiomas para solventar esa particularidad. Años más tarde, fue publicada en Brasil una edición del juego localizada al portugués y que, lejos de tener doblaje, contaba con el añadido de subtítulos en pantalla hasta ahora inéditos en las demás versiones. Fue a partir de esta versión brasileña y su código de subtitulado por lo que se pudo realizar una traducción semi-completa al español del juego a nivel amateur por Kelmer, que posteriormente fue mejorada y completada al 100% (incluye el anteriormente intraducible puzzle de las casetes de Klingmann) por lobo.rojo.
- El juego original ocupaba 9 CDs, pero tuvo que ser acortado, suprimiéndose capítulos enteros en los que, según se comenta, se tomaba el control de un tercer personaje, Ludwig II.

Xaver | Xaver is the hunting club's receptionist since 1972. He therefore knows almost everything that goes on in the club, but his sense of duty and discreteness prevents Gabriel from getting a lot of information from him. In fact, Xaver would probably rather see Gabriel leave, as he does not appear to fit in the elite club anyway. The role of Xaver is played by author and actor Etan Boritzer. |

Frau Gelder | Frau Gelder works at the Rittersberg post office. She only has a small role, sending and receiving letters, packages and faxes for Grace. Her role is played by Brigette Kozub. |

Padre Getz | Father Getz, the local priest, is one of the few characters in Rittersberg who does not speak English. Herr Habermas therefore has to give Grace a hand to obtain some old church records. His role is played by Karl Lienhof. |

Los Smiths | The Smiths are a couple from Pensylvania, USA. They are both very involved in the occult, faith, good versus evil and so on. As such, they wanted to meet Gabriel in Rittersberg, since he in fact is a warrior of the light. Of course Gabriel is not there, but when they figure out he's in the middle of a dangerous case, they decide to stay in Rittersberg to help Grace. The Smiths are played by Judith Drake and Bruce Ed Morrow, who passed away on February 18, 1997 at the early age of 56. |

Harold Ubergrau | Harold Ubergrau is the Ritter family lawyer. He took care of the transfer of the Ritter castle from Wolfgang to Gabriel. He is probably the most helpfull person of the game. He provides contacts, he provides a Ritter family tree for Gabriel to gain access to the hunting club, he translates various thing from German to English, he provides cash to pay off Dorn, he forwards letters from Rittersberg and more. His role is played by Frederick Solms. His assistant, Frau Hogel, is played by Diane Frank. |

Thomas | Thomas maintains the exhibit of the European wolves at the Thalkirchen Zoo. He provides his opinion on how the wolves may have escaped, but does not believe they are killers. He also refers to doctor Klingmann and allows (though unwillingly) Gabriel inside the wolf exhibit. The role of Thomas is played by Gil Neuman who is also the game's assistant director and co-producer. |

Michael Hessel | Michael Hessel works at the biology department at the Munich University. Gabriel comes in contact with him through a client of Ubergrau, who also works at the university. Michael investigates both hair samples and the paw print, which Gabe has found, proving that the escaped zoo wolves are not the killers. He then writes his findings down for Gabriel for him to use it as official evidence. The role of Herr Hessel is played by Christopher Shea. |

Dorn | Dorn is the man who imported, and sometimes exported, all exotic animals for Grossberg, and Grossberg supplied those animals to Von Aigner. Unfortunately Grossberg, who was deep in debt, got himself killed in an attempt to blackmail Von Zell, leaving Dorn without money. Gabriel will pretend to be Grossberg's financial backup to find out where the "escaped" zoo wolves ended up. The role of Dorn was played by Jack Orend. |

Agente Fink | Not exactly the most charming personality of the game. Agent Fink is the receptionist at the police station, but he's not very helpful, and Gabe can't understand him since Fink only speaks German. This small role was played by Ron House. |

Profesor Barclay | Professor Barclay is Grace's mentor at the university of Yale where she studies history. Grace's research on Ludwig does not reveal a lot, so she calls Barclay who puts her in contact with Herr Dallmeier, a specialist in Ludwig II. The role of professor Barclay was played by painter, Stephen Stavast. |

Herr Dallmeier | A historian, specialized in Bavarian history, and particularly Ludwig II. Herr Dallmeier invites Grace to Seeshaupt to share his knowledge about Ludwig. His role was played by Michael Wilhelms. |

Sir Thomas Chaphill | Sir Richmond Chaphill had the privilege to be the only person to read and translate the diary of King Ludwig. He wrote a biography on Ludwig, using excerpts from his diary, but was otherwise not allowed to publish any of it. Of course Grace will try and ask anyway, but Chaphill has already died. It takes quite some convincing, but his son, Thomas Chaphill, finally allows Grace to look into the translated copy. The role of Chaphill was played by Chris Tennant. |

Georg Immerding | Grace meets Georg first at the Wagner museum, an unemployed music student watching over the museum while it's closed. Georg is a great fan of Wagner and has his own theory about the lost Wagner opera actually existing, despite his brother's different opinion. When Grace finds the lost opera, he's of course all excited. He will conduct the opera himself. The role of Georg is played by Brad Greenquist. |

Claus Immerding | Claus is Georg's brother and director of the Munich Opera. He will help his brother prepare for the lost Wagner opera. His role is played by Endre Hules. |

Instalación
Preinstalado
En el foro dispones de versiones preinstaladas donde sólo tendrás que descomprimir y ejecutar con PLAY:
- Basada en DOSBox y la versión CD.
- No contiene las imágenes de los CDs, sólo la preinstalación preparada para que pongas las imágenes de los CDs en la carpeta indicada.
DOSBox
- Tras la salida del nuevo parche de traducción mejorado, se recomienda:
- Instalar con el nuevo instalador para DOSBox.
- Aplicar la traducción con el nuevo parche de traducción para DOSBox.
- No se necesitan ninguno de los anteriores parches ni mejoras, ya están todos incluidos en el nuevo instalador.--lobo.rojo 18:11 24 sep 2013
Windows XP
- Nota importante: estas instrucciones se redactaron antes de que saliera la nueva versión mejorada de la traducción. Se recomienda descargar la traducción mejorada y usar la opción de DOSBox. Sigue las instrucciones que encontrarás junto a la traducción.
- Explico paso a paso como instalo el juego en Windows XP, en DOSBox me ha dado problemas. Leer primero todos los pasos antes de hacer nada.
- 1 - Monto la ISO del 1er CD en mi Windows XP en una unidad virtual y cuando arranque la reproducción automática pinchamos en Install. Saldrán un par de preguntas que respondemos Yes y unos test a nuestra máquina que pasará sin problemas, Continue, elegimos el tamaño de la instalación que queramos y comienza la copia de archivos.
- 2 - Descomprimimos el 1er parche y copiamos el contenido en la carpeta de instalación C:\SIERRA\GK2WIN sobrescribiendo todo. En el readme.txt explican los cambios que hace el parche.
- 3 - Con el 2º parche lo mismo que el anterior. Este parche desintercala el vídeo, haciendo que desaparezcan las famosas lineas. Cuando lo descomprimas verás un par de fotos de ejemplo del resultado del desintercalado de la imagen.
- 4 - Por último descomprimimos la traducción en cualquier carpeta y ejecutamos el Setup.exe. Parecerá que estamos instalando de nuevo, en realidad se reemplazará lo necesario para la traducción. Al final dejamos activadas las voces, no poner la traducción total ya que perderemos las voces y el juego pierde muchísimo.
- 5 - Inicia el juego como lo harías normalmente desde el icono que se ha creado.
- 6 - Yo recomiendo montar 6 unidades virtuales y montar los 6 CDs a la vez, así evitaremos los cambios de discos.
- NOTA: Si al poner la traducción salta un mensaje diciendo que no encuentra el archivo GDI.DLL, abre el Administrador de tareas (CTRL+ALT+SUPR) y cierra el proceso wowexec.exe, que a veces se queda colgado por ahí.--cireja 18:11 24 sep 2013
