N4, 2002 & 2003 Game Tweaks
Open up your C:/papyrus/Nascar4/Nascar2002 or Nascar2003 racing season directory. These ini.file adjustments will work with all three sims. The performance gain hasn't been as great for 2003 as it was for 2002 but it'll still get you some frames. Look for your core.ini and open it with notepad or just by double clicking it. Look for the line that reads,
[FileLRUCache]
Cachesize=4194304
Just put a 1 in front of the number, So it'll read
[FileLRUCache]
Cachesize=14194304
Next, look for the
[Memory]
Maxblocksize=131072
You'll have to calculate the amount of RAM you have. Just multiply your ram by 1024
Example: 512x1024=524288
Then insert that number so it reads,
[Memory]
Maxblocksize=524288
***We have heard that on some computers Nascar 2003 will lockup and/or crash to the desktop when using values above 512 on your ram to configure your [Memory] Maxblocksize .
Save the core.ini file and close it.
Next, open the rend_ogl or the rend_d3d file, Whichever your running the game in, OpenGL or D3D.
look for the line that reads.
TextureSetSize= "
??"
The "number" is what you want to replace. There is a formula for this...
( Mb of video ram) x (1048576) - ( 4 x Screen Width) x ( Screen Height) x (BPP) Bits Per Pixel, use (2) for 16bit or (4) for 32bit color.
NOTE: 16bit color will be less of a performance hog then 32bit color
HUH! WHAT THE?
I listed the proper settings here, Just look and match up your resolution with your color depth and you'll find the answer to the formula for your TextureSetSize.
32mb video card running in 16bit "Don't even try 32bit, it'll be a waste of your time"

Then look for the,
AnistropicLevel=8
Change the 8 to a 0
AnistropicLevel=0
Save these changes and close the file.
Then, In your players directory. Open the Player file
Look for the line that reads
[Graphic Opitions]
texture_quality= -1
Change this number to a value between -1 and 100 for a increase in picture quality. This will give some performance hit, but the increase in eyecandy is well worth it.
[Graphic Opitions]
texture_quality= 100
There's a few more general things to keep in mind. The number of cars you draw ahead and behind will affect your FPS. The draw distance and mirror detail will affect FPS along with anisotropic filtering, lightmaps, reflections and shadows from cars or sturctures. Last but not least, Maximum Sounds Played has an effect on FPS. Lowering this to 8 seems to really help on many machines. These changes can be made under your options menu in the sims main menu screen. To tweak the most out of your system you'll want to play around with these settings until your happy with your FPS.
You can also take control of your Virtual memory settings. Under: Settings/Contro lPanel/System/Performance/Virtual memory Select "let me Specify" Ignore the Windows warning.
Then set your minimum and maximum to the same setting. Let's say, at least 500mb each or if you can spare it 1000mb minimum and maximum. This will prevent your HD from resizing it's memory Swap file during racing and eliminate some stuttering that occurs during game play.It's best to defrag often or even partition your HD with a 1gig partition and assign your virtual memory to that.

Running NR2003 on Windows 8 or 10:
*********************************
Having read about some users having issues while some don't, I wanted to put together a 'readme' where information can be shared so everyone with either Windows 8 or 10 is able to run the game.
This is taken from what I have found on the internet, so if you have either Windows OS and cannot get the game to work (and it previously worked in a different operating system), try each of the following in order:
1- Install your game to a folder in your User folder or in My Documents
2- Disable Windows DEP (Data Execution Prevention)
3- Run Compatibility Mode for Windows XP (right-click on .exe, go to properties, choose compatibility mode)
Additional info on DEP:
- Remember to reboot your computer upon disabling DEP
- You might need to turn off Secure Boot before you can disable DEP
From The Windows Club website:
Starting with Windows Vista, Microsoft introduced Data Execution Prevention or DEP, a security feature that can help prevent damage to your computer by monitoring programs from time to time. Monitoring ensures that running program use system memory efficiently.
If there is any instance of a program on your computer using memory incorrectly, DEP notices it, closes the program and notifies you.
If you want to generally turn off DEP or Data Execution Prevention in your Windows, you can always do so, but if you need to turn off Data Execution Prevention for a particular program only, like say explorer.exe, here’s how to go about.
- Turn off Data Execution Prevention for Particular Program
- Open Windows Explorer. Right click This PC or Computer and choose, ‘Properties’
- Then, select the ‘Advanced System settings’ option
- Next, from the ‘System Properties’ window, select ‘Advanced’ tab
- Choose the ‘Performance’ section now and from the new Performance Options window that appears on your computer screen, select ‘Data Execution Prevention tab’.
- You will see options:
. Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services
. Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.
- Select the latter and click Add
- Browse to the Program Files folder, find the .exe file for the program, and then click Open
This way you can disable or turn off Data Execution Prevention for Explorer too, by navigating to the C:\Windows folder and selecting explorer.exe.
------------
Fully disabling DEP:
*******************
More from The Windows Club website in case you need to fully disable DEP.
We have already seen how Data Execution Prevention, a security feature can help prevent damage to your computer from viruses and other security threats. Harmful programs who try to attack Windows by attempting to execute code from system memory locations reserved for Windows and other authorized programs, are stopped.
These types of attacks can harm your programs and files. DEP can help protect your computer by monitoring your programs to make sure that they use system memory safely. If DEP notices a program on your computer using memory incorrectly, it closes the program and notifies you. It is as such a security feature.
While it is not recommended, you may have your reasons for wanting to disable Data Execution Prevention on your Windows computer. Lets us see how to disable DEP in Windows 10/8/7 using the bcdedit.exe tool.
Disable Data Execution Prevention:
- In Windows 7, type "cmd" on the Start menu Search box
- Right click on search results ‘cmd’ and click on "Run as Administrator" (Windows 10/8 users can also open an elevated command prompt window via the WinX menu)
- Copy paste the following and hit Enter:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff
- Reboot
You will find that Data Execution Prevention has been disable on your Windows computer. You may then, if you wish, verify the status of Data Execution Prevention feature on your system.
Re-enable Data Execution Prevention:
- In Windows 7, type "cmd" on the Start menu Search box
- Right click on search results ‘cmd’ and click on "Run as Administrator" (Windows 10/8 users can also open an elevated command prompt window via the WinX menu)
- Copy paste the following and hit Enter:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOn
- Reboot
This will enable back Data Execution Prevention.
Espero que les sirva de ayuda para poder ejecutar y disfrutar el "Mejor Simulador de Carreras de la Historia"....
