En la Suecia de los años ochenta, Ord Salomon acepta ayudar a Sara Bergwall a encontrar el último libro escrito por su padre, Jonatan, antes de morir. Él descubre que Jonatan estuvo investigando la industria armamentística, en concreto ciertos asuntos exteriores encubiertos con dictadores extranjeros.
