Donald Dowell es un octogenario irlandés que se acaba de jubilar y está sumido en el aburrimiento. Eso lo lleva a buscar empleo, encontrando acomodo como asistente de cazafantasmas. Es enviado a Barker Manor para investigar ciertos fenómenos extraños que están pasando allí.
