Descripción
Otoño 2008 - Vic es enviada a Maine donde acaban de encontrar el cadáver de Audrey Dunnigan. El modus operandi y el vídeo enviado a la policía y a los medios de comunicación disipan cualquier duda sobre la identidad del asesino: el Verdugo de la Costa Este se ha cobrado una nueva víctima. Los resultados de la autopsia no revelan ninguna pista, el cuerpo ha sido cuidadosamente lavado. Una vez más, el asesino en serie no ha cometido ningún error. En su habitación en un motel, Vic ve un reportaje de Paloma Hernández, la periodista que cubre todos los crímenes del Verdugo de la Costa Este. De nuevo critica la ineptitud del FBI ¡y de Vic! para resolver el caso. Sin embargo, esto no impide que la periodista la llame para quedar esa misma noche. Afirma estar en posesión de supuestas pistas que podrían ayudar a resolver el asesino. Vic la rechaza secamente. Instantes después Paloma es secuestrada por el Verdugo...
