LucasArts es una empresa desarrolladora de videojuegos creada por George Lucas con el nombre de Lucasfilm Games. Es conocida principalmente por crear gran cantidad de aventuras gráficas en los noventa, como The Secret of Monkey Island, y también juegos basados en el universo Star Wars.
Descripción
En 1982 nace la compañía como parte de Lucasfilm, colaborando con Atari en el desarrollo de videojuegos, con el objetivo de George Lucas de ser una compañía desarrolladora independiente de la productora cinematográfica.
En 1984, tras el desarrollo en conjunto con Atari de Ballblazers o Rescue on Fractalus!, la marca pasa a llamarse Lucasfilm Games, siguiendo con ese objetivo de independencia. Ambos juegos fueron filtrados ilegalmente antes de su lanzamiento, por lo que no obtuvieron el éxito previsto.
En 1985, Kronis Rift y The Eidolon serían los primeros juegos desarrollados completamente por Lucasfilm Games, sin embargo fueron publicados por otras empresas.
En 1986 Lucasfilm lanza su primera aventura gráfica, Labyrinth, basado en la película del mismo nombre, que no utilizaba todavía el sistema [[SCUMM], pero abrió el camino al desarrollo del género en la compañía.
En 1987 sale al mercado el primer juego desarrollado y distribuido únicamente por Lucasfilm, y primer éxito rotundo de la empresa, que inicia su asentamiento como gigante de la industria: Maniac Mansion, el primer juego en utilizar el famoso SCUMM, motor desarrollado por la propia empresa en los años inmediatamente anteriores.
Mientras tanto, la creación por parte de George Lucas de otras empresas especializadas como Industrial Light & Magic y Skywalker Sound propició la aglutinación de estas en una nueva macroempresa, Lucasarts Entertainment Company, en la que también se incluye Lucasfilm en 1990. Pronto Lucasarts pasaría a ser el nombre de la división de juegos al aglutinarse de nuevo las otras empresas bajo el nombre de Lucas Digital.
En 1998 Lucasarts presentó una demanda contra Remedy Entertainment por plagio del logotipo de la empresa, por lo que Remedy Entertainment tuvo que retirarlo de su página web y rediseñarlo por completo.
Tras Maniac Mansion comenzaría la etapa dorada de Lucasarts y sus clásicos de la aventura, que durante casi una década competiría duramente con Sierra On-Line por el predominio en el género, creando ambos una larga lista de juegos de gran calidad.

Tras esta etapa, Lucasarts se ha centrado en crear juegos de sus franquicias más conocidas y comerciales, Star Wars e Indiana Jones, publicando también juegos de otras compañías, además de relanzar sus clásicos para las nuevas plataformas en distintas ocasiones.
Una década después de la etapa dorada, Lucasarts ha cedido los derechos de algunos de sus clásicos como Sam & Max o Monkey Island a Telltale Games, que ha relanzado junto a otras compañías el género de las aventuras gráficas.
En 2001 se da a conocer un proyecto totalmente desvinculado de Lucasarts, el SCUMMvm, un emulador que permite ejecutar los juegos basados en este motor, así como, posteriormente, los juegos de otras compañías como Sierra On-Line o Humongous Entertainment.
